We’ve all been there at one time or another. We sleep through our alarm, spill coffee on our shirt, and arrive late for work or (insert somewhere important here). Most likely this domino effect of negativity persisted throughout the entire day, leaving you to say “I hate any day that ends in ‘day’!”

1. Simple Movement

I'm talking REALLY simple here, like a 5-minute walk, a few pushups, or a few jumping jacks. Movement is great at getting your blood flowing to your body as well as your brain. I've been incorporating this lately by walking my dog first thing in the morning. While we walk I usually listen to uplifting music or a great podcast. When we get home, I’ll do a quick 10 or 15-minute bodyweight exercise routine. I find that when I'm finished I feel invigorated and my mind is clear.

2. Meditation

Definitely start small here... like 3-5 minutes total. Meditation is great for slowing down your brainwaves and calming a mind that's running a mile a minute. I don't know about you, but when my mind's all over the place, I can't focus and it's impossible to get anything productive done. Meditation isn't my strong suit, so I stick to about 10 minutes or so.

3. Gratitude

Take a few moments and think about all of the things you're grateful for. You can think them, say them aloud, or write them in a journal. Expressing gratitude puts you in a peaceful, loving, and compassionate place and decreases negativity. Anything that detracts from negative thinking is a must-do in my book!

4. Visualization

We tend to move toward what we focus on, so take 5 minutes and think about how you want your day to unfold. Be specific! Think about how easy you want your tasks to be, how happy you want to feel, and how productive you will be. You can even focus on one thing you would like to have happen and create an affirmation.

5. Nourishment

Feed your cells, feed your day. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water! Your body and brain need fuel to do all of the things you are asking of them, so give them what they need!
