How To Solve Any Problem In 4 Easy Steps

Do you have a problem you need to solve, but you're not sure how to begin fixing it? But the one thing you are sure of is that you want the solution to be permanent?

Well, I have good news! The solution is simpler than you might think. When you want a permanent solution, there are 4 steps that should not be overlooked:

Step 1:  Define the current problem, as it is TODAY, in one sentence.

Getting it down to one sentence is very important in order to focus on the true essence of the problem. More words will make it likely that you go off on a tangent.


Step 2: Define the cause of your problem.

Trace the cause back to its root. Think long and hard about this one. When you think you have identified the root cause, keep asking yourself if there’s something deeper.

For example, if you’ve been suffering from headaches every afternoon, ask yourself: Am I sick? (No.) Did I hit my head on something hard? (No.) Have I been eating regularly and drinking enough water? (I’ve been eating regularly, but I often forget to drink enough water.) Bingo! The root cause of your headaches is not drinking water at regular intervals.


Step 3:  Ask yourself how you can fix the acute symptom of the problem right now.

How can you put the fire out immediately and stop the burning? Remember that the symptom is NOT the problem itself. Looking back to the headache example, you can fix the acute symptom by taking a pain reliever along with a tall glass of water.


Step 4: Once you’ve put out the fire, go back and ask yourself how you can solve the problem in the easiest and simplest way possible.

Now that you aren’t experiencing the symptoms of the problem, you can go back and look at things with a clear head and attack the root of the problem without being distracted by its symptoms. In order to prevent your headaches from returning and solve that problem for good, you need to devise a plan to drink enough water regularly throughout the day.


Finding the solution to problems that come up in your life really can be simple when you work through the 4 steps above. Remember, it isn’t until you get to the root of the problem that it will go away for good. So if your boat has a hole and is taking on water, don’t just keep scooping out the water - solve the problem permanently by FIXING THE HOLE.
